I was thinking we could have nice scenery with a cheerful song, and out of nowhere bad scenery on how everything is polluted with rough music. Then just mix of polluted places and not polluted places with catrina’s, arathi’s and my poem display together with the pictures. If you have ideas you would like to edit to mine, comment me on my blog. I’m going to get everyone in this groups mail soon.

Documentary

Message: In my documentary my message is going to be to tell people that air pollution and water pollution affects a lot their health. Also that pollution is destroying the ozone layer so show them all the effects that it is making on Earth and the diseases that it is causing to us. Also, the messgae is to tell people that we are the ones that are causing pollution. We want to tell people that the air is polluted because of many things like burning trees. This is making more carbon dioxide and less oxygen for the Earth. Rivers and oceans are been polluted by us so animals are dying so their is less water for us to survive. Because we live in Colombia, we are going to tell people that our country is been affected by pollution, too.

What are we doing to present: To present this message, my partner and I are going to put a lot of pictures showing some types of air and water pollution like petroleum products, heavy metals, soil pollution, air pollution etc. Maybe also some pictures of people that has been affected by water and air pollution, not only people also the enviorment like rivers and streams that are contaminated also show how holes on the ozone layer have increased over time. We want also to show opinions of people like what they think about water pollution and air pollution and how would Earth look if water and air pollution continue increasing. How would the water and the environment be and if the population density would decrease or increase. That's what we want to show. In what ways can we start to prevent water pollution and air pollution? We would like to do interviews to people telling them to answer some questions that dont have anything to do with knowledge. It's just to show their opinions and what they think would be the answer to our questions.

What else do I need to make the documentary: I will like to add to my documentary a little of music that has like a song that tells people to save the world to take care of it something like that. Also, a very good explanation telling a lot of details. Maybe we could put subtitles so people could understand better what we say. After some information is given, we can give a summary written in the documentary. We have seen some documentaries in which sarcasma is used and it really calls the attention of the auddience, so, we could use some sarcasm in our documentary. We already said we were going to ask people about things they need no knowledge, but maybe we could also ask people with more knowledge to make the auddience know that our project is serious.

Air and water Pollution

One cause on air pollution at this time is pollution in the ozone layer. The ozone layer over the arctic has thinned this winter because of air pollution. The holes on the ozone layer make the ultraviolet light come in and reach Earth's surface. At this time children, adults, and old people are suffering and will continue suffering from skin cancer; which is a disease that is increasing already in the world. I also found information about this in Wikipedia. I saw something called ozone depletion. The ozone depletion describes how the stratosphere of Earth is changing each day by pollution. The process by which the ozone layer is changing is called catalytic destruction of ozone by atomic chlorine and bromine. CFC's are very dangerous they are one of the most dangerous compounds that destroy the ozone layer. CFS's can come from refrigerators, Air conditioners, insulation, foam, industrial cleaning agents etc. As you can see air pollution is not harming just Earth it is also harming a lot of people's health.

I got information from a web page called Air pollution causes and effects I found that in American office buildings that the air inside the buildings is more polluted than the air outside. A very dangerous illness that is caused by air pollution is lung cancer. Lung cancer is caused by Radon which is a gas that is made by decay of uranium. Radon gets in the air of buildings, through pores and little holes in concrete when indoor pressure is less than the pressure of gasses in the soil. Indoor air will be healthier than outdoor air if people use an energy recovery ventilator to make a consistent supply of fresh air and then air leaks in the shell of the homes. Other causes of air pollution are that because people are burning rain forests more carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere. As you know trees are major sources to make oxygen. If people continues to burn forests here is going to be less oxygen and more carbon dioxide.water pollution and society. Here says that pathogens are a cause of water pollution. They can cause skin disease and respiratory diseases. Pollution in rivers and streams in the United Kingdom has increased during the 20th century. Three forms of water pollution are petroleum, radioactive substances, and heat. A major source of water pollution is municipal water pollution. It consists of wastes of water from homes and public establishments. Agriculture is also a source of water pollution because by farming a lot of organic and inorganic pollutants get to the ground water. In a web page called water pollution guide I found that water pollution can damage the health of humans and animals. It may not immediately damage it but during time it could. I also found the ways by which water pollution is made. One way is when people throws garbage or wastes to the water. This makes the water very dirty and contaminated. Another way is global warming. When the water increases its temperature marine organisms can die. Also oil pollution which is made by boats that navigate they left behind the oil contaminating the water.

Pollution on Colombian Rainforests and others....

Colombia, even though is very small, its the second country in the world with the greatest biodiversity. However many of their rainforests are disappearing, and not only because of cocaine production. Also I researched and found out that the results of pollution can be either physical or biological. Something extra other than the things I promised I was going to research of is how Mongolia is affected during winter because of pollution.

Researching I found Mongabay where I found information about rainforests in Colombia. “Each year Colombia loses nearly 200,000 hectares of natural forest, according to figures released by the United Nations in 2003” tells the same web page. Let’s start by telling the main reasons of how here in Colombia rainforests are affected. One reason is palm oil plantation. Another reason is gold mining. An estimate during the mid 1990’s told that gold-mining by itself cleared 80,000 hectares of rainforests and at the same time it polluted rivers with mercury and siltation. A third way rainforests disappear here in Colombia is by coca plantations, which affects the rainforests in two ways. One is that poor farmers clear a lot of rainforests to grow the plant. The other reason is that drug efforts spray herbicides in areas they suspect there is coca to kill it. However any other plant is also killed. Finally, let’s focus on how pollution affects rainforests here in Colombia. In my country there are gas and oil deposits. “Ongoing instability has somewhat limited potential development”, says Mongabay. Guerillas attacks and installations on Eastern Colombia cause oil spills. Obviously, this oil spills lead to pollution.

Two ways in which the results of pollution are divided are physical results and biological results. One of the physical effects are oil spills. It is cause by ships collisions and other accidents. These oil spills coat everything they touch. Oil spills require expensive clean-up operations. “It fouls boat hulls, pier pilings, and shore structures; spoils the beauty of nature by killing fish and birds; and makes beaches unusable”, tells TPUB about oil spills. Another physical effect of pollution are air pollutants. Burning oil and coal produces sulfur oxides, which causes steel to erode a lot times faster than the normal. Also, when it mixes with other pollutants, sulfur oxide’s particulates cause corrosion at an even faster rate. Particulates by themselves damage soil materials and structures. I some way it destroys art because with some pollutants it erodes faster sculptures and buildings. The biological effects I also found them on TPUB. “The most serious result of pollution is its harmful biological effects on human health and on the food chain of animals, birds, and marine life. Pollution can destroy vegetation that provides food and shelter. It can seriously disrupt the balance of nature, and, in extreme cases, can cause the death of humans”, tells the same web page. Pesticides, that can be herbicides or insecticides, kill vegetation. These pesticides are meant to kill a specific animal or plant. However it isn’t selective so it also kills any other organism. The biological effect of water pollution is a great problem because it affects our water ways. It is caused by the widespread of pollutants such as oil and fertilizers. Since we need water to survive and water pollution put in danger our water ways, we are also in danger. Water pollution puts in danger marine life. Some water pollutants like oil that is a major one, kill surface-swimming organisms and sea birds. Also, when the oil sinks to the ocean floor, it also might harm shellfish and other marine life. The Navy is concerned because somehow they also cause pollution. The ships spill ship-wastes into water-ways. These wastes include oil, laundry waters, sanitary wastes, solid wastes, and different kinds of chemicals.

Mongolia is known because of its clear and blue skies. During winter, however, Ulan Bator, it’s capital, gets covered with smog on the sky. “The smoke can make it hard to breathe and it's affecting the health of Ulan Bator's burgeoning population” tells BBC News. Buildings might completely disappear from view because they get covered in smoke. In airports, international flights get delay or canceled because of the little view there is. Because Ulan Bator is in a valley covered by mountains, all the smoke gets trapped and preserved on the city.

I have some opinions after this research. I didn’t know how coca affected rainforests here in Colombia. Also, this is the first time I ever knew that gold-mining also affected rainforests. I got to know that guerillas here in Colombia also affected my country because it polluted the rainforests. Finally, however, I understood that pollution really isn’t the major way rainforests here in Colombia are disappearing, but it is a way. It cool to know that the effects of pollution are divided in two ways, physical and biological. Its sad to know that even though the Navy is so helpful, it pollutes waterways.

This research leads me to another way. As I’ve researched I found a lot of information, even though I didn’t write all of it. I’ve seen that every time I browse pollution, somewhere there is East Asia, especially China. So now I’m researching about water and air pollution on China and maybe other places in East Asia.

Hi,

I have an idea for the presentation of this project, to start with a few introduction poems and pictures of pollution, then research information and end with a summarizing poem with a picture background. I can get the pictures and some poems. Oh and add to this or change my ideas if you have anything better! Also, what pictures do you want of exactly? and what mood to the poems? comment me on my blog.

Hey, this is Arathi from Mr. Raisdana’s class and I have quite a few ideas for this teen life project. First of all, I want to thank whoever found that information, because it will certainly be helpful for this project! We also have plenty of forests here that are being cut down too. And sometimes, people would start burning it, adding more pollution to the air.

Since our project is about pollution, I was thinking of starting with some pictures of polluted areas, maybe even a then and now, to show how badly the world is getting polluted. We could also have a poem being read aloud while the pictures are being shown. Then after that, we could have some questions that we want answered, like how do we stop this? And what can we do? etc. After that, we could follow the idea of having information and more pictures of the things that cause air and water pollution. I have never seen a documentary with sarcasm, but if you think it will work, I am willing to give it a try. Also, I agree with Catrina, that we can end with a poem, leaving everyone to think about the message we have given them. When you said we could have a summary of what we have discussed, we could make that summary into a poem too.  I can do the beginning poem on how pollution has affected many people and also take some pictures. These are just ideas that I combined using all the ideas that everyone gave. Please contact me and tell me how you would like the poem to be done. Oh and how long would you like the poem to be? This is my blog: Arathi

Hey, this is Hanisa from Mr.Raisdana's class. I have a few ideas on how we could start the project. Links

This is my blog Hanisa

Hey guys, this is Arathi. The project is going well. I have got my poem but unfortunately, it’s pretty long. If you think that it is too long, please let me know. Also tell me how to reduce the length. You know where to contact me. Well, here is the poem:

The monster

Dead fish floating on dreary lake-waters.
A violent stench of loneliness.
Absolute silence.
Chopped down trees,
Barren forests.
Not a leaf in sight.
The monster has passed.
Born from the depths of blazing fires, rising with the smoke,
That climbs up spiral stairs through the air.
Stealthily creeping upon its prey
Forever watching with dusky eyes,
Like a shadow following your every move.
Striking, pouncing immediately
Destroying everything in sight.

Dusty ash towering the sky,
Blocking all,
Like a filthy curtain draping the skyscrapers.
A lone pipe leading out to the sea,
Leaking oil, poisoning every creature.
The monster has passed.
Raging quickly like a speeding car.
Choking little ones, forcing them to wear masks.
Lingering in deserted areas
Yet causing chaos in large cities.
Wrecking and tearing with sharp claws
Never stopping for a rest.
Destroying everything in sight.

But who brought this vicious creature to Earth?
Who gave it life?
Not the gentle forests that use to stand tall
Not the calm fish that are no longer around
Not the poor kids
Suffering, dying.
No, it’s us.
With our colored vehicles that roam to and fro
Crowding land, sea and sky.
A catastrophe in the making.

Hey guys! this is catrina, and i wrote a few poems for this project. the spaces in between means its a new poem:

I used to live in a shoe

With an old woman,

But one day she left us

And we were all alone.

But we lived on fine for a long time

But then it rained

And flooded our home.

A few managed to escape

And big pieces of plastic, Styrofoam, and paper

Floated by

And saved our lives,

But everything else

Died.

When I was young,

A few places flooded.

When I grow old,

More places will be flooded.

So, take this as a warning:

Be sure to learn how to swim.

The water level kept rising

So people kept building.

They made the bowl of their town higher

Every time.

But what if people people wanted to go to the beach?

If they break the bowl,

The town will flood.

On Mcdonald cups,

There’s a picture of a bin and a person next to it.

It says to throw it away after you’re done.

But isn’t that obvious?

what do you think of them? tell me by commenting back on my blog! (catrina.learnerblogs.org /mr r's class)
